Chen is the last descendant in a long line of men from the North. His name was given to him by his father, Vincent, son of Dominic of the East. Vincent let fate choose the name Chen for his third born son by tossing Chinese coins at the I Ching. Chen, The Arousing! First third born son of Vincent son of Dominic of the East. Pollina, a name given to Chen by his grandfather, Dominic of the east, is the Sicilian word for "little chicken". Growing up with a name that means, literally, the arousing little chicken was hard for him as a young lad, especially considering his girlish appearance. A problem that all of the young Nandinians struggled with. Much of Chen's family life remains a mystery. We know that he had two older brothers who would routinely call him names, beat him up, and spit on him, and he had a mother, who had a dog, a pure bred German Shepherd descending from a long line of German Shepherds who descended from the old Shepherds of Germany. It is rumored that when Dominic of the East moved in with the family, he got Chen's room, and Chen was forced to sleep on a small shelf in the basement for almost two years, while the dog got a room of her own. This "unique" upbringing led Chen to grow into the creative and talented young man that he is today.
